Mr. Toad's Tours Takes Green Tourism Retro in San Francisco

Mr. Toad's Tours of San Francisco adds two additional pre-1930s propane-powered vehicles to its fleet of Eco-Friendly touring cars this year.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA  -- ARROOOGA!!! Mr. Toad's Tours began giving daily tours of San Francisco in July 2005 and continues to be the only eco-friendly tour company in San Francisco with daily departures from Fisherman's Wharf. Even better yet, each tour is given in a beautiful pre-1930s touring car.

The gleaming white-walls and polished wood paneling from Mr. Toad's original 1929 Model A Woodie has brought smiles to everyone that has seen it driving down Columbus Avenue and laughter to everyone who hears their signature "Aroooga" horn. Thanks to their propane-powered engines, they have 60% fewer ozone-forming emissions than gasoline.

Eric, Muriel, and Charlie Lundquist started Mr. Toad's Tours in 2005 hoping to make their passengers feel like they were being given a tour by a long-time friend or family member. With three generations of San Franciscans, The Lundquist Family has blood rich with San Francisco history. Muriel's mother was born in San Francisco just three months after the 1906 earthquake, and Eric's father was a stand out athlete in the 1920s at the San Francisco YMCA.

"We figure that toads are green, so are we!" exclaims Charlie. “Mr. Toad's Tours is here to usher in the new age of green tourism, one toad at a time. In fitting only 10 passengers per car, we offer an extremely fun and personal way to see San Francisco and we can go up hills that none of the buses can go up. In addition, by using propane-powered vehicles (LPG) and soon adding natural gas powered vehicles (CNG), we're able to show tourists and locals alike that San Franciscans truly care about the environment."

The success of Mr. Toad's first vehicle, the 1929 Model A Woodie, has allowed Mr. Toad's Tours to customize more cars. This year, a total of four ten-passenger touring cars will be touring around the City with more on their way. The additional cars include a 1912 Rambler Touring Car, a 1918 "Toadster" Woodie, and an original 1924 Yellowstone Bus built by White Motor Company. This family owned company truly offers something that is available "Only in San Francisco."

Mr. Toad's Tours offers three sightseeing tours, an 80 minute “Hop around the City”, a 2.5 hour “Postcard San Francisco Tour” and a 75 minute "San Francisco by Night Tour". Tickets are $30-$45 and tours run hourly from 10:00am – 7:00pm. Passengers experience a combination of North Beach, Nob Hill, Chinatown, Pacific Heights, the Presidio, the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Haight-Ashbury, the Painted Ladies at Alamo Square, City Hall, Union Square, and many more of the city's unique sites.

Tours can be combined with a number of local attractions, hotels, and other boutique tours. More information can be found online at: www.mrtoadstours.com.
